Creating and running an scan

Create and run a scan: set the scope of what to measure, then run it step by step and watch it progress to results.

Scans and your monitor

LumaRank works as a monitor: each project has a Home that tracks how your brand shows up in AI assistants over time. A scan is one measurement of that project (a point in time). Most scans happen automatically on your schedule; you can also run one yourself.

Running a scan yourself

Open your project Home and use Refresh now. It runs a fresh scan of the project's prompts using its saved setup (brand, competitors, providers) and updates your current visibility and trend. See Refreshing a single prompt if you only want to re-check one prompt.

Setting up what a scan measures

A scan uses your project's saved configuration, which you edit in project Settings:

  • Brand & competitors: the brand, and the rivals it is compared against. Brands on the project's watchlist are read out of the same answers, so they get their mention rate without being part of the comparison.
  • Target markets: the places or audiences to focus on.
  • AI providers: which assistants to query (see Choosing providers).
  • Prompts: the questions asked; you can generate or edit them (see Prompt types).

While it runs

A scan runs in the background, so you can leave the page and come back. You'll see it appear in the running state; when it finishes, your Home and the scan's report update. See Scan statuses.

Good to know

  • A fuller, well-balanced prompt set gives a richer result.
  • Accurate competitors make the comparison meaningful.
  • Your first manual scan is free; after that a manual scan uses one refresh, and scheduled monitoring is always included (see Refreshes and how runs are billed).
