LLM optimization signals
LLM optimization signals: the on-site signals that help AI assistants find, read and describe your brand accurately.
What these signals are
Beyond how visible you are in AI answers, LumaRank checks a handful of technical signals on your own website. These are the things that make it easy (or hard) for AI assistants to find your pages, read them, and describe your brand accurately. Getting them in place gives the assistants cleaner material to work from.
The signals we look for
- llms.txt and ai.txt: emerging conventions for summarising your business to AI systems. No major assistant reads them today, so we track them as future-proofing rather than as a lever.
- robots.txt and sitemap.xml: the basics that let crawlers (including AI bots) reach and discover all of your pages. Worth checking against your firewall or CDN too, since those can turn a crawler away before it ever reads your robots.txt.
- Structured data (JSON-LD): machine-readable markup that helps systems agree on who you are. Assistants read the visible text on a page when they fetch it, so keep the same facts written out for people as well.
- OpenGraph tags: metadata that gives a clean title, description and image for each page.
- RSS feed: a steady feed of your latest content, which helps systems stay current.
- Documentation, API reference and a help center: in-depth, well-structured content that assistants lean on to explain how your product actually works.
How to read the card
The card shows which signals are present on your site and rolls them up into two readouts: one for your structured, machine-readable metadata and one for the depth of your documentation. A higher reading means assistants have more, and cleaner, material to represent you accurately. Use the See example links to view a concrete sample of each file or tag.
What to do about it
- Start with crawler access. If a bot cannot fetch your pages, nothing else on this list matters.
- Then the discovery basics: a complete sitemap and a robots.txt that lets the assistants through.
- If you publish docs or a help center, make sure they're easy to reach and well organized.
- Treat this card as housekeeping. It makes your site legible, but how often assistants actually name you is driven mostly by what the rest of the web says about you, which is what your off-site presence measures.
These signals support, but don't replace, your AI Visibility score and your off-site presence: the first is how AI talks about you, the second is what the web says, and these are how legible your own site is to the assistants.
