Sources the AI retrieved

Sources the AI retrieved: the real pages the AI pulled up while answering, and how to use them to get mentioned there.

What this shows

When a scan uses live web sources, the AI assistants look things up on the web before they answer. Sources the AI retrieved lists the exact pages they pulled up while answering your prompts, grouped by question and by assistant.

This is the closest thing to a map of where your brand's reputation is being built. If an assistant reads a page to answer a question about your space, that page is shaping how the assistant talks about you, whether or not it mentions you today.

Find it in the sidebar under AI Visibility, or on any scan's AI Visibility tab.

How to read it

We split the sources into two groups, because they mean different things:

  • Where to get mentioned (third-party sites): pages you don't own, ranked by how often the assistants leaned on them. This is your target list.
  • Your own pages the AI used: pages on your own site that the assistants pulled up. This confirms your content is being found and used.

Each domain shows how many times the assistants retrieved a page from it. Click that count to open the exact pages, and click any page to go to it. You can also switch to the By question view to see the sources each assistant retrieved for each prompt.

How to act on it

  • Start with the third-party domains at the top of the list: those are the high-value places in your market. Get mentioned, reviewed or listed there. Being present where the assistants already look is one of the most direct ways to improve how they describe you.
  • If your own site is missing from the sources when assistants answer about you, that is a signal to strengthen your on-site content so it gets picked up.
  • Compare the sources for questions where you show up well against the ones where you don't. The difference often points to a page or a site worth pursuing.

When it appears

This view only appears for scans that used live web sources. On plans that answer from a fixed snapshot instead of the live web, the assistants reply from what they already know, so there are no retrieved pages to show. See How your results stay current for the difference.
