Building a custom dashboard
Build a custom dashboard: pick the metrics you care about, arrange them into a board, and share it with clients.
What a custom dashboard is
Most pages in LumaRank are fixed: we decide what goes on them. A custom dashboard is yours. You pick the metrics and charts you care about from a catalogue, arrange them however you like, and save the result. Each project can hold several, so you can keep a board for your weekly check and another one built for a client.
You'll find them under My dashboards in the project sidebar.
Adding and arranging widgets
Click Add widget to open the catalogue. It's grouped the same way the sidebar is, so a chart you already know from the AI Visibility page sits under AI Visibility here too. Hover any entry to see what it shows and a link to its help article.
To rearrange the board, click Edit:
- Move a card by dragging its header.
- Resize it from the bottom-right corner.
- Rename a card, or remove it, from the ⋯ menu.
- Open source page in that same menu jumps to the full page the widget comes from, when you want the detail behind the summary.
Nothing is saved until you press Save, so you can try a layout and press Discard if you don't like it.
The board always fills the width of your screen, and on a narrow window the cards stack into a single column so everything stays readable.
Last scan or over time
Some numbers describe a single moment ("what did the latest scan find?") and others only make sense across many scans ("is this improving?"). The control at the top of the board sets which period you're looking at, and every card follows it.
Each card carries a small label so you always know what you're reading:
- Last scan: a snapshot from the most recent completed scan.
- Over time: a series across the scans in the selected period.
Some widgets only make sense one way, and their label is fixed. Where a widget works both ways, you can pin it to its own setting from the ⋯ menu; a pinned card shows a 📌 and ignores the control at the top. That's how you build a board with a few headline numbers from the latest scan sitting above a longer trend.
Reusing a board: templates
A dashboard stores which widgets you picked and where they go, never the data itself. That means the same arrangement works on any project: each board fills in with its own project's numbers. Templates are how you reuse it.
When you create a dashboard, Start from offers three things:
- Blank, and you add widgets yourself.
- A ready-made board from LumaRank, if you'd rather start with something and adjust it.
- One of your own templates, once you've saved any.
To make one, open a dashboard you like and choose Save as template. It's saved to your account, so it's available on every project and every company you manage. Handy if you report on several clients the same way.
Keeping boards and templates in step
Editing a dashboard only ever changes that dashboard. A template is never rewritten behind your back, so you can adjust one client's board without touching anyone else's.
When a board and its template stop matching, a note appears above the board with what you can do about it:
- Apply to template takes the change you just made and puts it in the template. Other boards made from it will then offer to pick it up.
- Update from template brings the template's current version into this board. This replaces the board's layout, so if you'd made your own changes here, LumaRank tells you before you lose them.
You can also ignore the note entirely and leave the board as it is.
Two things worth knowing: the ready-made LumaRank boards are a starting point only, so they never ask to sync. And the period selector at the top isn't part of a template's arrangement, so changing it never counts as something to sync.
Sharing a dashboard
On a plan that includes sharing, Share publishes the board as a read-only web page you can send to anyone, including people without a LumaRank account. They see only that dashboard: no other projects, no settings, nothing else.
Two things worth knowing:
- The link shows a frozen copy of your data, taken when you published, and the page states the date it was captured. Your client sees exactly what you saw when you sent it. Press Update snapshot whenever you want it to reflect newer scans.
- You can revoke the link at any time from the same menu, and it stops working immediately.
If you've set up your own logo and colours, the shared page and the PDF both use them.
Knowing whether it was opened
Once a link is live, the dashboard header and the Share window tell you how many times it was opened and when it last was. If the last opening happened before you pressed Update snapshot, it says so instead: that way you can tell whether your client saw the version you actually sent, not just the board at some point in the past.
A few things this number is not. It counts openings of the link, not people: the same person opening it twice counts twice, and there's no way to tell who they were. Automatic previews are left out, so a link pasted into a chat app or scanned by an email provider won't show up as opened. And turning the link off hides the count rather than erasing it, so publishing again brings the history back.
Exporting to PDF
Export PDF produces a print-ready copy of the board, laid out the same way you see it on screen. It's built from the same copy of the data as the share link, so the two always match. Generating it takes a few seconds while we render the page.
Plan limits
How many dashboards you can keep per project, and whether you can share or export them, depends on your plan. When you reach the limit, LumaRank tells you what your plan allows and what a higher one includes. Existing dashboards are never deleted if you move to a smaller plan; you simply can't add new ones until you're back under the limit.
See What each plan includes for the details.
