Clearing a warning on your account

Clearing a warning on your account: what a warning is, where to find it, how it clears on its own after 30 days, and how to appeal one or ask us to review it.

What a warning is

If one of your prompts is rejected as misuse, it also leaves a warning on the account. Warnings are how we tell an honest mistake apart from a pattern: a single one changes nothing about your account, and enough of them at once pause it for review.

Warnings belong to the account, not to a project or a person, so they are the same wherever you are working. Only the account owner can see and act on them.

Where to find them

Open Settings from your user menu and pick Issues. The tab shows a green tick when there is nothing counting against your account, and an amber warning icon when there is.

Each warning shows what was flagged, why, when it was raised, and when it stops counting.

They clear on their own

Every warning stops counting 30 days after it was raised. You do not have to do anything: it ages out on its own, and the account is back to clear.

This is per warning, not per account. Three warnings raised in different weeks stop counting in different weeks.

Asking us to clear one sooner

If a warning looks wrong to you, you can appeal it without waiting.

  1. Open Settings > Issues and pick the warning, or several at once.
  2. Click Appeal and explain what happened.
  3. You get an answer straight away.

Two things are worth knowing before you write:

  • Fix the prompt first. We look at what the prompt says now, not only at what you tell us. If the text that caused the warning is still there unchanged, an explanation on its own will not clear it. Delete the prompt or reword it, then appeal.
  • One appeal per warning per week. If an appeal does not go your way, you can try again after a week, or ask us to look at it instead.

When a warning is cleared this way, the prompt goes back to being checked normally. If it turns out the text is still a problem the next time a scan runs, the warning comes back, though you will not get a second one for the same prompt.

Asking a person to look

If the appeal does not clear a warning and you still think it is wrong, click Ask us to review. That sends it to our team with everything attached: what was flagged, what you said about it, and what the earlier answer was.

Someone reads it and replies by email, usually within 24 to 72 hours. While it is with us, that warning is paused: it keeps counting, but it will not age out or change while we are the ones holding it up.

If your account is already paused

Once an account is paused, a person always makes the decision, so the instant appeal is not offered. Use Ask us to review in the same tab: pick the warnings, tell us what happened, and we will look at the whole case together and can lift the pause.

If the pause is about usage rather than prompts, there are no warnings to explain and you will see the Appeal button in the banner at the top of the app instead. See If your account is paused for review.

Keeping it from happening again

The best way to avoid warnings is to keep prompts to genuine brand and market questions. See Keeping prompts genuine (acceptable use).
