Consistency: staying cited over time
Consistency: how steady your AI visibility is scan to scan, per engine, and what you can do to make it durable over time.
What consistency means
Consistency is how steady your AI visibility is from one scan to the next. AI assistants don't work from a fixed ranking: they re-decide what to cite every time someone asks, and they change a large share of the sources they pull between checks. So being cited once isn't durable. What lasts is a trend across scans, not a single result.
A high consistency score means you show up reliably; a low one means you get cited one scan and drop the next. Some wobble is normal, so read it as a trend, not a verdict. A smooth climb still counts as steady: it's swings, not movement, that lower the score.
Why it's tracked per engine
Each assistant reads from different places, so winning on one rarely carries to another. That's why the detail view breaks consistency down by engine. You might be rock-solid on one and flip in and out on another, and the fix belongs to that engine. The AI Providers view shows this per-assistant stability alongside each assistant's other stats.
How to make your presence steadier
You can't control an engine's day-to-day sourcing, but you can strengthen the inputs they all reward:
- Earn coverage across many independent third-party sources. Most of what AI cites is editorial and earned, not your own pages. Breadth is also a hedge: if one source stops being cited, the others keep you in the answer.
- Make your content quotable. State your answers directly, in short passages, with concrete specifics an assistant can lift as-is.
- Keep a clear, consistent brand identity across your site and profiles, so assistants can tell who you are.
Consistency is a stability lens on your visibility. It doesn't change your AI Visibility score.
